Provides direct care to those with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Performs personal care tasks, including assistance with basic personal hygiene and grooming, feeding, and ambulation, medical monitoring, and health care related tasks.
Direct support professionals are responsible for the day-to-day support of the individuals. The DSPs assists with maintaining the home of their client and assist with the development of their skills so they can take care of themselves. Direct support professionals assists the client feeding, bathing, dressing, medication administration and providing safe day to day supports. (24 hrs. if necessary ) The DSPs also encourage and advocate for their clients to be more independent and follow their interests and hobbies.
